Herbs for cats, sheep and goats

Cats, sheep and goats are often given a dose meant for a completely different animal, and that goes wrong in two directions: the amount is off and the signals are spotted too late. All three are experts at hiding discomfort.

The cat

Cats are fussy eaters and notice a new smell in their bowl straight away. Mix the herbs through a small amount of wet food and give that first, before the rest of the meal. If it does not work in one go, split the dose over a few small portions.

For a cat of 3.5 to 10 kg: twice daily half a spoon for the first ten days, then from day 11 twice daily a quarter spoon. Unsure with a small or sensitive cat? Start lower and build up slowly.

The sheep

In sheep, problems often only show once the flock has already noticed. Watch for animals that lag behind when moved, ruminate less, or develop a dull fleece.

For a sheep of 60 to 120 kg: twice daily one and a half spoons for the first ten days, then from day 11 twice daily one spoon. Do not forget the claws: Legg-Motion supports hooves and claws, but regular trimming stays the foundation.

The goat

Goats are browsers rather than grazers: they would rather eat leaves, twigs and herbs than grass, and they are fussier than you might think. Mix the herbs through a handful of pellets or concentrate feed, that is when they go down most easily.

For a goat of 40 to 60 kg: twice daily 1¼ spoons for the first ten days, then from day 11 twice daily ¾ spoon. As with sheep, the claws deserve regular attention.
